Online Casino Bill Approved by New Hampshire Senate

The New Hampshire Senate has recently approved a bill that would allow online gambling in the state. The bill, which was introduced by Senator Lou D’Allesandro, passed with a vote of 13-10 and will now move on to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

If the bill is ultimately passed into law, it would allow for online casino games such as poker, blackjack, and roulette to be offered to players within the state. The bill also includes provisions for consumer protections, such as age verification and measures to prevent problem gambling.

Proponents of the bill argue that it could bring in significant revenue for the state, as well as create jobs in the tech and gaming industries. They also point out that many New Hampshire residents already participate in online gambling through offshore sites, and that regulating the industry within the state would provide greater protections for consumers.

Opponents of the bill, however, argue that online gambling can be addictive and harmful to individuals and families. They also express concerns about the potential for increased crime and social problems associated with gambling.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time that New Hampshire has considered legalizing online gambling. In 2019, a similar bill was passed by the Senate but ultimately failed to gain traction in the House.

If the current bill is ultimately passed into law, New Hampshire would join a growing number of states that have legalized online gambling in recent years. Currently, 10 states allow online casino games, with several others considering similar legislation.

Regardless of one’s personal views on online gambling, it’s clear that this is an issue that will continue to be debated and discussed in state legislatures across the country. As technology continues to advance and more people turn to online gaming, lawmakers will need to grapple with how best to regulate and manage this industry in a way that balances economic benefits with social responsibility.
