Indiana Sportsbooks Receive $283.4 Million in Wagers in May, According to Indiana Gaming Commission Report

The Indiana Gaming Commission has released its latest report on the state’s sports betting industry, revealing that Indiana sportsbooks received a total of $283.4 million in wagers in May. This marks a significant increase from the previous month, when the state’s sportsbooks took in $236.4 million in wagers.

The report also shows that the state’s sportsbooks generated $24.3 million in revenue in May, up from $20.1 million in April. This represents a 21% increase in revenue month-over-month.

The majority of the wagers placed in May were on basketball, with $126.6 million bet on the NBA and $14.5 million on college basketball. Baseball was the second most popular sport for betting, with $79.3 million in wagers placed on MLB games.

Football, which is typically the most popular sport for betting in the United States, saw a decrease in wagers compared to previous months. Only $17.8 million was bet on NFL games in May, down from $27.2 million in April.

The report also provides information on the performance of individual sportsbooks in the state. The top-performing sportsbook in May was DraftKings at Ameristar East Chicago, which generated $7.7 million in revenue. FanDuel at Blue Chip Casino was the second highest earner, with $6.8 million in revenue.

Overall, the report shows that Indiana’s sports betting industry continues to grow and thrive, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The state’s decision to legalize sports betting in 2019 has proven to be a wise one, as it has provided a much-needed source of revenue for both the state and local businesses.

As more states across the country legalize sports betting, it will be interesting to see how Indiana’s industry continues to evolve and compete with other markets. For now, however, it is clear that Indiana sportsbooks are enjoying a successful and profitable year.
