Danish Regulator Takes Action Against 83 Illegal Gambling Websites

The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden has been given approval by the Næstved court to request that local internet service providers block access to 83 unlicensed gambling websites.

The sites in question are currently operating illegally in the Danish market and will no longer be accessible following the court ruling. The original request for blocking was made in 2023.

This latest effort to block access to illegal gambling operators breaks the previous record for unlicensed sites blocked in a single year. The previous record was 82 sites which were removed from the Danish market in 2022.

Since the first illegal online gambling blocks were introduced in 2012, Spillemyndigheden has blocked 359 unlicensed gambling websites.

The Danish Gambling Authority’s director Anders Dorph expects more blocks in 2024:

“We have intensified our work to shut down the illegal sites, so that we now get them blocked twice a year instead of once as previously. In this way, we can get hold of even more sites and minimize the period when Danish players are exposed to games that are offered illegally in Denmark.

Children and young people in particular are a vulnerable group. For instance, many of the illegal websites have very lenient requirements for age verification. Some of the sites also offer games that particularly appeal to children and young people, such as skin betting.”

The list of the 83 blocked sites includes:

  • paradisecasino.com
  • kingbilly.com
  • cleopatracasino.com
  • 1bet.com
  • cobracasino.com

The Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) has recently taken action against 83 illegal gambling websites operating in the country. This move comes as part of the regulator’s ongoing efforts to crack down on unlicensed operators and protect consumers from potential harm.

The DGA, which is responsible for regulating the gambling industry in Denmark, has been monitoring the online gambling market closely to identify and shut down illegal operators. In this latest crackdown, the regulator targeted a total of 83 websites that were found to be offering gambling services without the necessary licenses.

These illegal operators not only pose a risk to consumers by operating outside of the regulated framework, but they also undermine the integrity of the Danish gambling market. By targeting these websites, the DGA is sending a clear message that it will not tolerate illegal gambling activities in the country.

In addition to shutting down these websites, the DGA is also working with other regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible for operating illegal gambling sites. This coordinated effort is aimed at deterring future illegal operators and ensuring that the Danish gambling market remains fair and transparent.

Consumers are reminded to always check for a valid license before engaging in online gambling activities. Licensed operators are required to adhere to strict regulations and standards, which help ensure a safe and secure gaming environment for players.

Overall, the DGA’s actions against these 83 illegal gambling websites demonstrate its commitment to upholding the integrity of the Danish gambling market and protecting consumers from potential harm. By working together with other regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies, the DGA is sending a strong message that illegal gambling will not be tolerated in Denmark.
